East Dean Ghost and Smugglers Walk

90-minute guided evening walk through East Dean village with stories of local ghosts, smugglers and shipwrecks. The route runs from the village green past The Dipperays and up Friston Hill to Upper Street, then south along the ancient smugglers track called Went Way with views towards Birling Gap, Beachy Head and Belle Tout lighthouse, returning via Smugglers Cottage, Gilberts Drive and St Simon's and St Jude's church to finish at the Tiger Inn. Approximately 1.2 miles at a moderate pace with frequent stops. Walks take place on Saturday nights, meeting 15 minutes before the start time. Not recommended for children under 14; under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. Assistance dogs only.
